Ahmedabad Family Finds Chicken in 'Veg' Mexican Hot Pot Ordered at Restaurant. Here's What Followed
An Ahmedabad restaurant, famous for its Mexican Hot Pot, was fined by AMC after a family found chicken pieces in their vegetarian order.

In an unsettling incident in Ahmedabad, a family faced sheer disappointment when they discovered chicken pieces in their supposedly vegetarian order from the Carry On restaurant by Tomato’s & Mirch Masala in Bopal, famously known for its Mexican Hot Pot. The family, having ordered the same dish that the restaurant is renowned for, was taken aback by the unexpected surprise (or shock). Seeking resolution, they approached the manager, but their concerns fell on deaf ears.

Frustrated, one family member took matters into their own hands, recording a video of the incident and sharing it on social media. The video captured their confrontation with the staff, including a visit to the kitchen to verify the segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian sections. The bill even indicated the order as ‘Veg Mexican Hot Pot.’

Not stopping at the restaurant, the family escalated the matter by filing a complaint with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The health department of AMC, upon learning of this disturbing incident, promptly imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 on the establishment. (It’s worth noting that this incident occurred in Ahmedabad’s Bopal area, not to be confused with Madhya Pradesh’s ‘Bhopal.’)

According to Meet Rawal, a resident of Sanand, they had initially ordered a vegetarian Mexican Hot Pot, only to discover meat pieces as they began eating their meal. In his words, Rawal said to the Times of India, “We complained about it but got no response from the restaurant. So we shot a video of the incident and circulated it on social media and also complained to the AMC.”

This incident echoes a similar case in Varanasi, where a family visiting during the holy Sawan month received chicken instead of the vegetarian meal they had ordered online. The social media post, which gained viral attention, featured videos revealing chicken pieces in the paneer biryani ordered from ‘Behrouz Biryani’ via Zomato, with a misleading ‘Veg’ label on the package.
