Bengaluru Uber Driver Passes 'Sexual' Comments on Lady Passenger, Reddit Post Seeks Help

A distressing incident involving an Uber driver making unwarranted sexual advances towards a woman in Bengaluru has surfaced after a Redditor shared the harrowing ordeal online and sought assistance in addressing such misconduct. Taking to the ‘Bangalore’ subreddit, a user identified as @addy04_ detailed how his girlfriend encountered inappropriate behaviour from an auto rickshaw driver associated with Uber. The driver continuously stared at her and made lewd comments during the ride.

Recounting the incident, the OP revealed, “Today my girlfriend took an auto to go to her friend’s PG (a distance of about 800-900m) and throughout the ride, the auto driver kept turning back and staring at her legs. This happened for about 15-20 times, traumatising her, cold in fear no words came out and the second the auto stopped she ran inside the PG.” Unfortunately, the unsettling experience did not end there. The driver proceeded to make a “number of lewd and inappropriate comments” when she exited the auto-rickshaw and hurried into her friend’s building.

According to the account, the driver even lingered until she entered the building, registered, and rushed upstairs.

Disturbed by the incident, the man expressed, “We’ve filed a complaint against the driver on Uber but I don’t feel this is enough. This has happened way too many times on Uber, as well as other apps, not only to her but a lot of known females. Is there a government body to file this incident and take some action? Can an FIR be filed?”

Soon, fellow Reddit users stepped in to offer assistance. “The lewd words, stalking behaviour and gestures etc. are all crimes under the Indian Penal Code, and therefore she should file an FIR with the nearest police station,” advised @St_Broseph, a well-known social worker in Bengaluru.

“Hey bro! An incident like this happened to one of my friends but in rapido. There is an option SOS/Emergency. Use that incase of such incidents. I guess there is an option to call the police as well. Please find details on how to use such features that’ll be very useful in these situations,” suggested another user. “As someone who watches too much true crime, I’d suggest you to file a police complaint. Even if they don’t go around catching him he’ll be in the records. If he tries to pull this stunt again it’ll help in prosecuting him,” said a third commenter.
