Apple has laid off 614 employees, making it the first major job cut since the pandemic began.

In April 2024, the wave of mass layoffs swept across some of the world’s largest companies. Tech titans like Tesla, Google, and Apple were forced to cut thousands of jobs. So far this year, more than 70,000 people have lost their jobs in the tech sector. Apple has laid off 614 employees, making it the first major job cut since the pandemic began. The affected employees are said to be part of Apple’s Special Projects Group, some of whom worked on the now-defunct self-driving car project. Sources report that the numbers could be even higher, considering that some employees working overseas have also lost their jobs.

Google laid off many employees in Python, Flutter, and Dart teams. A Google spokesperson explained that the job cuts are part of a restructuring and that affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for other open positions within the company.

Amazon is cutting hundreds of jobs in its cloud computing division, affecting sales, marketing and technology teams for brick-and-mortar stores. The layoffs are part of the company’s efforts to streamline certain areas and focus on the company’s core goals.

Intel is laying off over 50 employees at headquarters and has confirmed that it is laying off about 62 employees at its headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The company initiated a new round of layoffs in the Sales and Marketing Group as part of a reorganisation led by Christoph Schell.

Google’s real estate and finance departments were hit by job cuts. Employees from various Google teams, including the real estate and finance departments, were affected by a separate layoff last month as the company cut costs. Affected employees can apply for other internal positions. Some of the jobs will be moved to hubs where the company invests, including India, Chicago, Atlanta and Dublin.
