Bangladesh Humble Pakistan in 2nd Test For Historic 2-0 Clean Sweep
Bangladesh created history with their first ever Test series win over Pakistan in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

Bangladesh recorded their first-ever series win over Pakistan with a six-wicket victory in the second Test in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. Chasing 185 to win, the visitors inched their way to the target for the loss of four wickets, 25 minutes before tea on the fifth and final day to complete a 2-0 series sweep.

That Bangladesh were 26/6 at one stage in their first innings of the contest makes the result even more remarkable. They recovered from the batting collapse to make 262-all out in reply to Pakistan’s first innings total of 274. Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz stitched a partnership for ages to pull their side back into the contest. Litton made 138 off 228 while Mehidy struck 78 off 124.

Perked up by the response of their batters, Bangladesh bowlers stepped up in the second innings as they bowled out Pakistan for 172 in 46.4 overs to limit the lead to just 184.

The opening pair of Zakir Hasan and Shadam Islam then made a solid start in the chase while adding 58 runs before being separated. Pakistan needed wickets and in a heap but the tourists looked determined and kept a steady approach towards the target.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made 38 and Mominul Haq 34 as Bangladesh tightened their grip before veterans Mushfiqur Rahim (22*) and Shakib Al Hasan (21*) completed the task to create history at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

“(The victory) Means a lot, I can’t express it in words,” said Shanto during the post-match presentation. “Really happy. We were looking to win here and very happy with the way everyone has done their job. Very impressive, the work ethic of our pacers was great and that’s why we got the result. Everyone is honest with themselves and they want to win, I hope they continue.”

A disappointed Pakistan captain Shan Masood said they’re not learning from their mistakes and pointed out how the team has repeatedly allowed opponents to wriggle themselves out of difficult spots.

“Extremely disappointed, we were excited for the home season. The story has been the same as Australia, we have not learnt our lessons. We taught we were playing good cricket in Australia but not doing the job, that’s something we need to work on. It has happened four times in my tenure that we have left the team back into the contest when we were dominating,” Masood said.
