Despite getting fewer opportunities to showcase his talent this season, Rinku was at peace with the IPL Trophy around his arms

Rinku Singh narrowly missed a spot in India’s 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup and found himself among the travelling reserves. As stated by his father in a media interview, the left-hand batter was dejected over the snub despite performing for the country throughout the last calendar year. But he was no longer heartbroken as his team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the third Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy on Sunday, after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai.

KKR’s batting order, both top and middle, was in form throughout the event, including Rinku. Although the 26-year-old batted in only 11 innings, he was effective with 168 runs at a strike rate of 148.67.

Despite getting fewer opportunities to showcase his talent this season, Rinku was at peace with the IPL Trophy around his arms. In a video uploaded by the IPL on social media, the 27-year-old said his dream of lifting an IPL trophy is fulfilled and now, he aims at lifting the World Cup with his Indian teammates in America.

“I’ve been playing this team for seven years now and for the first time, I’m getting an opportunity to lift the IPL trophy. I am truly very happy,” Rinku said in the video.

“A dream of mine is fulfilled but there’s one more – the World Cup. I’ll be leaving for the US in a few days, all alone, which will be tough for me. But I will lift the World Cup for sure,”  he added.

In another interview, with online broadcaster JioCinema, Rinku spoke about KKR’s performance this season and also lauded team mentor Gautam Gambhir, who returned to the side after seven years.

“You can’t credit just one person because everyone has worked hard. Since GG (Gautam Gambhir) sir came, a lot of things have changed. Sending Sunil early, he batted so well,” Rinku said.

“The batters played well, and the bowling was great. Venky (Venkatesh Iyer) has been batting really well for the last five-six matches, so overall, everyone has done really well,” he added
