Emotional Imran Nazir Reveals How Shahid Afridi Helped in His Treatment With 'Crores of Rupees'
Imran Nazir shocked the cricketing fraternity last year with claims that he was poisoned at the peak of his career.

Former Pakistan cricketer Imran Nazir got emotional on live TV while talking about Shahid Afridi. Recalling how Afridi came to his rescue in adversity, he thanked the former Pakistan captain for his help. Nazir shocked the cricketing fraternity last year with claims that he was poisoned at the peak of his career.

A year after the explosive interview, a fan shared a video of Nazir thanking Afridi for his help during difficult times. In a video from an episode of the Pakistani show ‘Haarna Mana Hay’, Nazir is heard saying, “One time it happened that I asked myself, ‘Is there no one that can help me?’ for a treatment. Today I am going to mention one person, Shahid Afridi. Just on a simple request from me, that man laid down crores of rupees in front of me.”

Imran Nazir said that he was thankful for Afridi’s gesture that helped him make a full recovery. In the video, Nazir added, “Even today I want to tell Shahid Afridi and the Shahid Afridi Foundation, ‘I love you’ and I hope that you continue this good work always.”

Fans reacted to the post with lots of love for Shahid Afridi. One of them said, “Shahid Afridi helps underprivileged, celebs, cricketers, hockey players, footballers & all you can name. Such a gold heart! No one matches his services.”

Another said, “Lala is our pride.”

Others felt that it was Shahid Afridi’s foundation that had laid down the money and not the cricketer. “Shahid Afridi did not pay anything from his pocket. Imran Nazir said that all bills were cleared by the direction of the Shahid Afridi Foundation. It was people’s charity,” read a comment.

Imran Nazir played for Pakistan from 1999 to 2012, representing the team in eight Tests, 79 ODIs and 25 T20Is. He played his last international game on October 4, 2012, in a T20I fixture against Sri Lanka.

In an interview with the Nadir Ali Podcast Nazir had claimed that he was poisoned with mercury. “When I recently got treated, including MRI and all, a statement was issued that I was given poison – Mercury. It is a slow poison; it reaches your joints and damages them. For 8-10 years, all my joints were treated. All my joints had gotten damaged and for this reason, I suffered for almost 6-7 years,” Nazir revealed.

Imran Nazir has now become a regular feature on the Pakistani Comedy Show ‘Haarna Mana Hay’. Just last week, the batter criticised Pakistan for their poor showing at the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. The Asian powerhouses had a poor showing at the ICC event, crashing out of the tournament after losses to India and the USA.
