The Kaleshwaram project in Telangana continues to be in the news after a Central fact-finding team submitted its report on the reasons behind the partial sinking of two pillars of the Meddigadda barrage on October 21.

The team from the National Dam Safety Authority, which was at the site from October 23-25, submitted the report to the chairman. The report says that lack of stringent quality control, flaws in planning and designing led to the mishap.

The report has added fuel to the Opposition’s allegations of corruption in the project. The Congress has said that CM K Chandrashekhar Rao’s (KCR) family has been using the project as “their ATM".

However, KCR’s party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has maintained that the Detailed Project Report and other crucial permissions were given by the Centre and it’s an irony that they are raising these issues now.
