Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Wednesday distributed gift coupons worth Rs 3000 to 354 ex-servicemen aged 60 and above at a function here. This is the first time that the welfare measure is being extended to ex-servicemen. Earlier, only WWII veterans and widows of ex-servicemen were gifted the coupons.
Of the 354 ex-servicemen, 237 were from Puducherry, 45 from Karaikal, 69 from Mahe, and 3 from Yanam. MLAs Ashok Anand and Omsakthi Sekar, Joint Secretary (Home) Pankaj Kumar Jha, Department of Sainik Welfare Director Col (Retd) M S Sunderam were also present.
