Congress, AIADMK allege violation of poll codes

PUDUCHERRY: Congress and AIADMK on Monday alleged that Chief Minister N Rangasamy violated Election Commission’s model code of conduct during the filing of nominations by AINRC candidate A Tamilselvan.Congress leader V Vaithilingam as well as AIADMK Secretary and MLA A Anbazhagan said that Rangasamy violated the poll code provisions of keeping vehicles parked beyond a distance of 100 metres by driving his car into the Labour Complex, the office of the Returning officer (RO).In separate interactions with the media, they alleged that despite the EC stipulating that only five persons can accompany an individual, Rangasamy had entered with several partymen, including ministers, till the office limits of the RO. The Congress also alleged that Rangasamy ‘gate crashed’ into the office of the Returning officer along with his party candidate and three others while Congress candidate V Arumugham was filing his nomination.Vaithilingam said that the party would file a complaint to the Election Commission to reject the candidature of AINRC candidate and post a central observer and depute paramilitary forces for the by-election.
