DGCA seeks explanation from airlines over fare cancellation charge
What airlines are doing is not in sync with the government's thinking.

The aviation watchdog, the DGCA, has sought an explanation after a steep hike in cancellation charges announced by airlines like Indigo and SpiceJet left air passengers reeling.

The aviation watchdog has stepped by seeking an inquiry and all airlines are expected to submit their reply by Friday.

Fearing more airlines will follow Indigo and SpiceJet's move, the air passenger's body has also threatened to approach the Competitions Commission of India.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has often spoken about how Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself wants to take flying to the masses. In keeping with that, the ministry wants to enhance regional connectivity with an affordable airfare of Rs 2500 per hour.

What airlines therefore are doing is not in sync with the government's thinking.
