MANGALORE: When Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was asked to step down by BJP leadership on Wednesday, an eerie coincidence occurred in Dharmasthala.For exactly on the same day a month ago on June 27, thousands of devotees had been treated to an unusual politicking in the name of oath-taking by the CM and H D Kumaraswamy.While rationalists would beg to disagree, the belief amongst thousands of devotees on politicians reaping the fruits sooner or later for invoking the name of presiding deity in Dharmasthala has been reinforced.The political predicament in the state capital has not surprised us, says a temple staff who had served the CM and his entourage in the VVIP guest house.Maatubida Manjunatha (The name of lord Manjunatha shall not be uttered in vain). When there are hundreds of instances of people being punished for failing to keep the pledge, how can a chief minister escape? the staffer quizzed.“The political drama unfolding before us will not stop here,” asserts veteran writer Yerya Lakshminarayan Alva who is a close confidant of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade.Alva also believes that the chaos unleashed in political parties is a befitting lesson for all politicians who invoke the name of the deity and drag Dharmasthala in their petty politicking.Union Minister M Veerappa Moily had first publicly invoked Dharmasthala in 1983. Dragging the kshetra will surely have a long term repercussion on the state’s politics, he vouched.
