London: Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, who is currently based in London, plans to return home to launch a new political party, the media here reported on Friday.
"Supporters of Musharraf have begun the process of registering a political party, the All Pakistan Muslim League," the 'Daily Telegraph' reported on Friday, quoting a close aide of Musharraf in Islamabad as saying.
Muhammad Ali Saif, a lawyer who served as a minister under the former military ruler, told the newspaper that he would act as the leader of the party until Musharraf, 67, was ready to return.
"When he decides to come back he will come back. We are already working on his behalf. He left voluntarily so he can come back any time he chooses," Saif said.
Allies of Musharraf are being investigated in Pakistan for their alleged role in the assassination of ex-Premier Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi in December 2008.
A UN report earlier this month concluded that her death could have been prevented had the then Musharraf government provided adequate security to her.
Besides, police in Pakistan have registered a criminal case against Musharraf that could result in him being tried for detaining judges in 2007 as he attempted to cling to power.
