SC Dismisses ED Plea Against Jharkhand HC's Bail To Hemant Soren In Money Laundering Case
The Supreme Court orally noted that the High Court’s order granting bail appeared to be well-reasoned.

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea challenging the Jharkhand High Court’s decision to grant bail to Hemant Soren in a money laundering case.

The top Court emphasized that observations made by the Supreme Court or High Court should not influence the trial court during the trial. Additionally, the Supreme Court orally noted that the High Court’s order granting bail appeared to be well-reasoned.

The Enforcement Directorate had earlier moved the Supreme Court, challenging the High Court order that granted bail to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

The ED said that the High Court’s order is illegal and that their observations are prejudiced.

The investigative agency had further mentioned that the court has erred in saying that there is no prima facie against Soren.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was granted bail on June 28 by the High Court in a land scam case. The high court had on June 13 reserved its decision on Soren’s bail plea.

“Bail has been granted to Soren. The court has held that prima facie he is not guilty of the offence and there is no likelihood of the petitioner committing an offence when on bail,” Soren’s senior counsel Arunabh Chowdhury had earlier told PTI when the bail was granted.
