In a significant move, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced a change in the traditional colour of Nishan Sahib. Effective immediately, the Nishan Sahib, which has historically been adorned in saffron, will now be draped in ‘Basanti’ (a tone of orange) or ‘Surmai’ (blue).
The decision, made following directives from Shri Akal Takht Sahib, mandates that all Gurudwara Sahibs in Haryana adopt the new colour scheme. The transition from saffron to ‘Basanti’ has already been implemented at the historic Shri Badshahi Bagh Gurudwara Sahib in Ambala.
The Granthi of Shri Badshahi Bagh Gurudwara Sahib explained to Local 18 that while the Nishan Sahib’s colour had been set in 1936 by Akal Takht Sahib, recent instructions have called for this update. This change reflects the ongoing evolution of Sikh religious practices and adherence to the latest directives from Akal Takht Sahib.
The Shri Badshahi Bagh Gurudwara Sahib is renowned not only for its spiritual significance but also for its historical association with Guru Sahib and the birds’ epic confrontation with the eagle.
