The weatherman has predicted light to moderate rain and snow (over higher reaches) in Kashmir till April 16

Sonamarg, the famous tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district turned white on Monday after a fresh spell of snowfall in the region. The winter chill returned to Kashmir as moderate rainfall across the Valley brought the mercury down by several notches over the past two days.

The visuals from Sonamarg show a serene landscape dominated by the pristine white of freshly fallen snow.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway also remained closed for vehicular traffic due to landslides triggered by rains at Kishtwari Pather in Banihal, officials said on Monday.

“NH-44 blocked due to Heavy landslide at Kishtwari Pather. People are advised to avoid journey,” Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police said.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is the lifeline of the Kashmir Valley and the main road link connecting it with the rest of the country.

The weatherman has predicted light to moderate rain and snow (over higher reaches) in Kashmir till April 16.

From April 17-18, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, generally dry weather is expected but there is a possibility of late afternoon thundershower activity at a few places.

Partly cloudy weather with light rain or snow (upper reaches) is expected at many places during the evening of April 19 to April 20 morning, it added.
