Aishwarya Rai Bachchan 'Inspired' Zendaya's Met Gala 2024 Look? Here's What We Know

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has become a talking point after this year’s Met Gala even though the actress did not attend the elite fashion event. The theme for Met Gala 2024 was ‘Garden of Time’ and Hollywood actress Zendaya left everyone in awe with her multiple looks. One of her looks featured her in a glorious black gown and a hat with colourful flowers attached to it. Now, a video has gone viral on Reddit comparing her look to Aishwarya’s look for Cannes 2022.

The now-viral video features Aishwarya’s Dolce and Gabbana black gown look for Cannes 2022 and compares it to Zendaya’s look by John Galliano for Givenchy. The video also compares Mindy Kaling’s Gaurav Gupta Met look with another Aishwarya Rai Cannes look. Watch it here:

Netizens did not appreciate these comparisons and said that it is the designers and the stylists who are responsible for any similarities and not the actresses. They also pointed out that Zendaya’s gown was pulled from the archives and was not inspired by Aishwarya’s Cannes look.

One person wrote, “Aish didn’t design them.” Another added, “Nah, it’s just a case of designers being repetitive.” One person commented, “Zendaya’s look was out of archives lol.” One person wrote, “Matlab kuch bhi… Zendaya’s looks were pulled from couture archives to showcase Galliano’s work. Tons of Western celebs wear Gaurav Gupta, including Cardi B.” Another added, “All of Gaurav Gupta’s sculptural gowns look like that and Aishwarya WAS NOT the first to wear one in 2022.”

The 2024 Met Gala was held on Monday, May 6 celebrating the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’. The exhibit featured approximately 250 items from the permanent collection, rarely seen in public before. Hollywood A-listers Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Chris Hemsworth co-chaired the event.

In recent years, Indian representation at this prestigious event has burgeoned, with celebrities from the country and its diaspora making marks with their awe-inspiring ensembles. While the Gala regulars Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone gave it a miss this year due to their hectic schedules, Alia Bhatt made the country proud in a pastel Sabyasachi saree. This also left fans wanting to see other big names like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Shraddha on the Met red carpet.

Although Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has not made a Met Gala appearance, she is a regular at the Cannes Film Festival and will return again this year. Fans are excited to see what stunning looks she pulls off this year.
