When Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna decided to tie the knot, it wasn’t all smooth sailing with Twinkle’s parents, the legendary Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. Initially, Dimple Kapadia wasn’t too thrilled about the idea. However, in a candid interview, she revealed that over time, she recognized that Akshay was indeed the best choice for Twinkle. Dimple went on to share some heartwarming insights about their home life, highlighting Akshay’s playful nature as a prankster and expressing her admiration for him by calling him an “amazing man.”
Dimple Kapadia recalled at an event organised by FICCI FLO Jaipur, “Earlier on, I had my reservations about my daughter getting married to him. Thank God she did. He is what any aspiring actor would want to be as far as discipline is concerned. He is an amazing man. I see him interacting with a lot of people and he derives so much joy in just sitting and playing basketball or cards with you. He can just sit down and chat with you and make you feel so good. He is naughty to the hilt and he finds me to do these things on.”
In a chat on Tweak India, Twinkle Khanna had revealed an interesting piece of advice from her mother, Dimple Kapadia, regarding her relationship with Akshay Kumar. When Akshay proposed marriage, Dimple suggested that the couple live together for two years before tying the knot to ensure their compatibility. “When my husband said he wants to marry me, my mother said, ‘Nothing doing, you live together for two years. If you make it, then you get married’,” Twinkle shared.
Dimple Kapadia also recounted a memorable prank Akshay played on her. He convinced her to accompany him to Delhi under the pretense of meeting Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. Dimple, who felt she couldn’t refuse, got ready on time. As they were about to leave, Akshay claimed he had forgotten his wallet and they needed to stop by his house. He asked Dimple to come inside to see the kids while he retrieved his wallet. To her surprise, when she entered the house, she found herself at a grand surprise party for her 50th birthday. “So I come in and there’s a huge party for me, it’s my 50th. And he pulls this off with me every time,” Dimple recalled with a laugh.
Earlier this year, Twinkle Khanna graduated with a Masters in Fiction Writing at the Goldsmiths, University of London. Post her graduation, Akshay turned out to be her biggest cheerleader. He shared a happy photo of himself with Twinkle on social media and also penned a heartwarming note on her big achievement.
Akshay praised Twinkle and wrote, “Two years ago, when you told me you wanted to take up studies all over again, I wondered if you meant it. But the day I saw you work so hard and perfectly manage a full-fledged student life along with home, career, me, and kids, I knew I had married a superwoman.”
