Nani REACTS To Shocking Findings of Hema Committee Report: 'I Don't See This Happening Around Me'
Nani is not the first actor who reacted to the Hema Committee report. Previously, Tovino Thomas also demanded punishment for the perpetrators.

Telugu star Nani has reacted to the findings of the Hema Committee report concerning the Malayalam film industry. In a recent interview, the actor called the report ‘alarming’ but added that he does not see any such thing happening around him.

“When I read this thing, it breaks my heart. But I don’t see this happening on my sets or anywhere around me. I’m sure it’s the same case with a lot of mainstream films (as) everybody’s working towards something very serious,” Nani told PTI.

“There might have been something, but it never came to my notice on the location or everybody’s a little careful around us. So, when I read something like this, I’m like, ‘Where is this happening?’,” the actor added.

Nani, who is currently promoting his upcoming movie, ‘Surya’s Saturday’ called for strict punishment for the accused and hoped for things in the film industry to get better. “I see a lot of change in the next generation. When I see these young ladies or someone who’s newly joining the cinema, they are not like the ones who have been around for 20 years. I’m seeing a lot more maturity, a lot more professionalism and I’m hopeful that things are going to get better from here.”

Nani is not the first actor who reacted to the Hema Committee report. Previously, Tovino Thomas also demanded punishment for the perpetrators and said, “If someone has done such a terrible thing to anyone, be it a man or a woman, they should get the deserved punishment. They shouldn’t be spared, that’s the basic thing to do. They should not just be punished but we must ensure that this doesn’t happen again. That awareness, that education system must be there so that (the workspace is safer for women).”

What Is Justice Hema Committee Report?

In 2017, a Malayalam actress actress was sexually assaulted following which the government formed a three-member commission. While it was headed by Justice K Hema (retired), former bureaucrat KB Valsalakumari and veteran actress Sharada were the other two team members. The report, which was submitted to the government in 2019, was made available to the public earlier this week. The report investigates several aspects of the Malayalam film industry including sexual harassment, lack of basic facilities like women’s toilets and changing rooms, pay disparity and discrimination on the basis of gender.
