In Good Half, Nick plays Renn, a writer who returns to his hometown Cleveland for his mother’s funeral. As Renn reconnects with his family including his high-strung sister (played by Brittany Snow), his well-meaning father (Matt Walsh) and his step-dad (David Arquette) and meets new friends like his love interest Zoey (Alexandra Shipp), he grapples with his past and personal growth.

One particularly challenging scene involved Nick singing on camera. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nick admitted that it was “one of the hardest scenes to shoot." In the scene, Renn steps away from his family’s home for a date with Zoey at a karaoke bar. After a few drinks, Zoey persuades him to take the stage and sing. Unlike his usual polished Jonas Brothers performances, Renn’s rendition reflects ordinary singing ability.

“It’s really hard to think about how to try to sound not great, but not bad. The balance of it was an interesting thing to navigate, but the triumph of the character in that moment was very necessary for his journey, so I was happy to get to do it, but it was the one scene that I was nervous about stepping into for the film," he told Entertainment Weekly. "

Talking about his upcoming projects, Nick will reportedly be seen in John Carney’s next musical comedy, Power Ballad, alongside Paul Rudd and Jack Reynor. The film is currently in production in Ireland. He will also feature in the upcoming Netflix comedy film, You’re Cordially Invited, which stars Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.
