Stree 2 Actor Abhishek Banerjee Says Amar Kaushik Is 'Bully from Kanpur': 'He Can Insult You...'

Abhishek Banerjee has been riding high on success with his film Stree 2 dominating the box office. In a recent conversation with PTI, Banerjee shed light on what makes working on Stree 2 so special, giving fans a peek behind the scenes. He humorously referred to director Amar Kaushik as a “bully from Kanpur,” revealing how Kaushik’s directorial style brings out the best in the cast.

“Amar bhai (brother) is a bully from Kanpur,” Abhishek quipped, explaining that despite his gentlemanly appearance, Kaushik arrives with a distinct Kanpuriya vibe. “He can insult you very badly about your humour, and acting. He could be like ‘Abey, kya kar raha hai ye? Ye kahan se seekh ke aaya hai?’ (What are you doing? Where did you learn this from?). So, you’re always on your toes,” Banerjee added.

The camaraderie on set plays a vital role in the film’s success. Abhishek explained that the actors have a bond that allows them to make fun of each other without hard feelings. “What works for us is that we can be very ruthless towards each other and really make fun of each other,” he shared. This atmosphere of humour and constant critique allows the actors to push each other to deliver their best. “If someone’s improvisation is bad and it’s not funny, we laugh about it, but that motivates us to do better.”

According to Banerjee, this dynamic is unique to the Stree set. On other film sets, actors might feel insulted by such criticism, but here, it’s all in good spirit. “When you are so open in front of your co-actors, that’s when the best lines come out,” Banerjee noted, though he acknowledged that they maintain a balance to ensure professionalism.

Banerjee also spoke highly of veteran actor Pankaj Tripathi, praising his effortless ability to make any scene humorous. “Sometimes I’m just laughing by looking at the things he does,” he said.

As for the question of credit for Stree 2’s success, Banerjee reassured that everyone involved is “very secure.” “Even if we are insecure, we say it out loud. Like, I would do that a lot on song shoots and say, ‘Mujhe center frame chahiye’ (I want to be center frame) just to irritate my co-actors,” he concluded with a laugh.
