Zack Snyder Reveals He Once Considered Leonardo DiCaprio For The Role Of Lex Luthor

Zack Snyder, the director known for his work on Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the Snyder Cut of Justice League, recently recalled about a time when he considered Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of Lex Luthor. While Snyder eventually cast Jesse Eisenberg for the part, he shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had a conversation with DiCaprio about the role, during which the Oscar winner had some intriguing ideas. Despite DiCaprio’s interest, he ultimately decided the role wasn’t for him. Snyder also revealed that DiCaprio suggested the idea of Superman fighting the Justice League, a concept that Snyder incorporated into his vision for Justice League.

“I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cool.’ He (DiCaprio) is a comic guy. I was like, ‘I’m going to put that over there," he said.

Superman, the iconic hero, has now completed 86 years since his debut, with fans celebrating the occasion in various ways. James Gunn, director of the upcoming Superman movie, shared a photo from the set featuring David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, reading classic Superman comics.

Over the years, many actors have portrayed these iconic characters, each under the direction of different filmmakers.

The new movie, which also stars Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, is set to bring a fresh take on the beloved DC characters. The film will feature María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

Peter Safran, one of the producers, clarified to Comicbook that Superman: Legacy is not an origin story but rather focuses on Superman’s journey.

Safran further explained, saying, “It’s not an origin story. It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice, and the American way. He has kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned," reports Comicbook.

Gunn has confirmed that Superman is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
