While Korean dramas surely have a mass appeal amongst a wide range of audiences, Korean thrillers seem to be not much behind. Some of the most nail-biting Korean thrillers include Forgotten, Sweet Home, and Train To Busan among others. Joining the list is another edge-of-the-seat action-revenge thriller, titled Ballerina. Headlined by Jeon Jong Seo, the upcoming film is scheduled to be released on OTT giant Netflix on October 6. Ahead of Ballerina’s premiere, the makers rightfully arrested the attention of binge-watchers by dropping the film’s gripping teaser. Directed by Lee Chung Hyun, Ballerina is also set to premiere at the 28th Busan International Film Festival on October 6.

The teaser opens with Jeon Jong Seo claiming that she is on a mission and “needs to do something.” Jeon has slipped into the shoes of Ok Ju — a female ex-bodyguard, hell-bent on taking revenge for the death of her best friend Min Hee, played by Park Too Rim. With a steel gaze, Ok Ju says that she is on a “hunt” which is later revealed to be a man-hunt. Her friend Min Hee who was a professional ballerina was killed under mysterious circumstances and it is up to Ok Ju now to avenge her friend’s untimely demise.

The teaser captures Ok Ju relentlessly pursuing her friend’s killer. Covered in blood, she walks on a deadly path of vengeance using guns, knives, fists, and unwavering determination as her weapons. She is portrayed as bold and undaunting, ready to go to any length to fulfill the wish of her now-dead friend. The teaser promises plenty of action, gunmanship, sword fighting, and martial arts. The scary visuals embedded with chilling music are bound to give viewers a ride of adventure and adrenaline. The teaser concludes with Ok Ju saying, “I’ll hunt you down all the way to hell” aiming a gun at someone.

Apart from Jeon Jong Seo, Ballerina also stars Kim Ji Hoon essaying the character of Choi Pro, who is touted to be the primary suspect. The film seems to be an ode to female power and friendship above all. “How far are you willing to go for a friend? Grieving the loss of a best friend she couldn’t protect, an ex-bodyguard sets out to fulfill her dear friend’s last wish: sweet, sweet revenge,” read the caption of the post shared on Instagram by Netflix K-content.

This is the second time that Jeon Jong Seo has collaborated with director Lee Chung Hyun. The actress previously worked with the filmmaker on the critically acclaimed 2020 film The Call.
