Rajinikanth Teams Up With Leo Director Lokesh Kanagaraj For 'Thalaivar 171' After Jailer

Superstar Rajinikanth was recently seen in the film Jailer alongside Tamannaah Bhatia. The film was a massive hit among his fans who left no stone unturned to appreciate their beloved star’s cinematic venture. Good news for Rajinikanth’s fans, Sun Pictures on Monday took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his next film, written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Presented by Kalanithi Maran, the film is temporarily titled Thalaivar 171, marking Rajinikanth’s 171 film as an actor. The announcement made by Sun Pictures read, “We are happy to announce Superstar @rajinikanth’s #Thalaivar171. Written & Directed by @Dir_Lokesh. An @anirudhofficial musical. Lokesh is known for directing some mega-successful films like Leo in 2023 starring Vijay and Trisha Krishnan, Vikram in 2022 starring Kamal Haasan and Vijay Sethupathi, and the Kainthi franchise starring Karthi. He has also worked with Bollywood star Ajay Devgn for the 2023 film Bholaa.

Rajinikanth and Lokesh’s fans are excited to see what masterpiece their creative collaboration will result in. They flooded the comments section of the announcement post. While fans wrote they cannot wait to see Thalaiva portrayed through the lens of Lokesh Kanagaraj, they are also excited for the film to feature Anirudh Ravichander’s musical prowess. One person wrote, “Rajni – Loki – Ani .” Another added, ” blockbuster loading.”

Anirudh last worked on the score of Shah Rukh Khan’s much-anticipated film Jawan, directed by ace filmmaker Atlee. The film also featured stellar performances by Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi and Deepika Padukone among others.
