Former India cricketer S Sreesanth is in trouble again after being named in an FIR for alleged case of cheating in Kerala.
Sreesanth, whose professional career came to an abrupt halt after being named in IPL spot-fixing scandal, has been accused alongside two others by a resident of Choonda Kannapuram alleging they cheated him of Rs 18.7 lakh.
As per a report in news agency ANI, the complaint has been filed by Sareesh Balagopan who claims the money was taken from him for the construction of a sports academy in Kollur, Karnataka.
As per Sareesh, he invested the amount in hopes of becoming a partner in the sports academy.
Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini are the two other accused in the case.
The Kerala police has booked the trio under IPC Section 420 (cheating and dishonesty inducing delivery of property).
The 40-year-old Sreesanth is currently representing Gujarat Giants in the ongoing Legends League Cricket.
The right-arm pacer announced his retirement in 2019, bringing an end to an eventful India and domestic career that saw him being part of two world title winning teams – 2007 World T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup.
He burst onto the scene as a talented pacer with a terrific upright seam position.
He took 169 wickets during his international career that saw him represent In India 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is between 2005 and 2011.
Sreesanth’s career effectively ended after the IPL spot-fixing scandal of 2013 wherein he was found guilty by the BCCI alongside two other cricketers including Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan.
Sreesanth was handed a lifetime ban which was later lifted by Kerala High Court in August 2017.
Following that, Sreesanth resumed his playing career with hopes of an India comeback.
He also was shortlisted for IPL players auctions in 2021 and 2022 but found no takers.
He continues to play in various T20 leagues across the globe though.
