Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir’s “anti-Hindu” address. Addressing a rally in Bardhaman-Durgapur, PM Modi said, “Hindus were being treated as second class citizens in Bengal.”
“I saw on TV yesterday that here in Bengal a TMC MLA openly threatened. He was saying that Hindus will be drowned in Bhagirathi in 2 hours. What kind of language is this? What is happening with Hindus in Bengal? It seems Hindus being treated as second class citizens in Bengal,” PM Modi said. “What kind of people are these that they even object to the slogan Jai Shri Ram. They have objection to the construction of Ram temple and to the Ramnavami procession,” he added.
Re-iterating how the Opposition was now doing ‘vote jihad’, PM Modi said, “Knee-deep in their policy of appeasement, TMC has dehumanised people. Now, they openly speak of ‘Vote Jihad’. Not a single Opposition leader has condemned the statement because they all agree to it. We can not let them win. We must fight against this.”
Attacking the Trinamool over “appeasement politics”, PM Modi also cited Sandeshkhali saying the TMC was trying to save suspended party leader Shahjahan Sheikh “because of his name.”
“I want to ask the TMC government that such a big crime happened against our Dalit sisters here in Sandeshkhali. The whole country kept demanding action, but TMC kept protecting the culprit. Was it just because the culprit’s name was Shahjahan Sheikh,” the Prime Minister questioned.

On Thursday, BJP leader Amit Malviya shared a video of TMC’s Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir on X (previously Twitter), and wrote, “In Murshidabad, Hindus are a minority. Just 28%. And this is what they are being subjected to. Imagine, what fate awaits Hindus, if they become minority in rest of Bengal. Appeasement politics in West Bengal has touched a new low. Thanks to Mamata Banerjee, Hindu are now worse than second class citizens, in Bengal. Will she dare to kick out this MLA from the party? Can those intellectuals, who routinely spread venom against the Hindus, dare to speak a word?”
