New Delhi: The Congress on Monday sought to take the sting out of Narendra Modi's speech in Hyderabad on Sunday claiming he read out the text prepared by an American company. "It is not wrong to read a speech prepared by anybody but it would have been better had he read out the speech given by any Indian team. He speaks through the help of an American company. Ask him, who prepared the speech," party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary said.

Beginning his speech in Telugu, Modi had exhorted all non-Congress parties to come together and attacked the Centre over its Pakistan policy. He had ended his 45-minute speech taking a leaf out of US President Barack Obama by making the crowd chant 'yes we can'.

Chowdhary also downplayed questions about Left parties' siege of the secretariat in Kerala to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Oomen Chandy in the wake of the solar panel scam. "We all know it is poll season. We all know what happens in a poll season and I am sure Chandy is capable of dealing with the issue there. And so be it," she said.

Asked whether Congress has finalised any view on the issue of amendments to the electoral law in view of a recent Supreme Court order on disqualification of MPs and MLAs, she said, "It's not about supporting or opposing. It's about getting a comprehensive vision. All parties, who are involved in it taking their opinion and then dealing with it in the democratic possible way."

To a specific question on what is Congress's view on the matter, she said, "We do not have the luxury of having our opinion foisted on any one... We have an open mind. We are looking at what the majority wants and we will see what we can do about it."
