The Telangana government has decided to change the state’s code from ‘TS’ (Telangana State) to ‘TG’ in a cabinet meeting — a change that will reflect on all vehicle registration plates in the state.
Chief minister A Revanth Reddy said the previous government chose ‘TS’ as per its whim and no other state in the country has ‘state’ in its code. The decision on Sunday was taken to implement an announcement made by the CM during the assembly election campaign.
A few other key decisions were taken in the meeting. It was decided that poet Ande Sri’s ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana’ — which became popular during the Telangana movement — will be the state song. The cabinet also decided that changes will be made in the ‘Telangana Thalli’ (Telangana mother) statue to reflect the aspirations of the people. Apart from these, it was announced that the Budget session of the Assembly will meet from February 8. The governor’s speech was approved to this effect.
Besides taking up the BC caste census, two more guarantees — Rs 500 LPG scheme and 200 units of free electricity — will be set in motion during the Assembly session.
A new state emblem will be designed after consulting all stakeholders. Other decisions taken were notifying Kodangal Area Development Authority, upgradation of 65 government ITIs as advanced technology centres, allocation of 100 acres of land for constructing a high court in Rajendranagar, and formulating guidelines to award remission to convicts.
The CM also directed a sub-committee to submit a report on reopening the Nizam Sugar Factory. Opening the Nizam-era factory has been a recurring poll promise in the state. The cabinet committee discussed pending arrears and the financial difficulties faced by the closed factory at Bodhan and Mutyampet. The CM enquired about the requirements of sugarcane farmers and their problems. He then asked the sub-committee to make suitable recommendations and suggestions to revive the factory.
