UPA government in bad shape: Arun Jaitley
Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that the UPA's partners are moving away endangering its stability.

Amritsar: Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Sunday said the UPA government at the Centre was in bad shape as its constituents were moving away from it.

"The UPA government is in bad shape. Its partners are moving away endangering its stability," he said.

Three Congress workers, including Councillor Ajit Singh, joined the BJP in the presence of Jaitley at a function in the city.

Earlier, Jaitley, presiding over the annual convocation of Khalsa College, said the country needed reforms in the higher education to produce best of minds to compete in the emerging competitive world.

He said there was no place for mediocrity and only the best of the lot could compete in the upcoming "cruel world" of competitions.

"In this competitive world, only the best will survive. There are ample opportunities for all and one needs no big surnames to succeed in life.

"The siblings of big industrialists are failing in their family businesses and sons and daughters of common man are turning successful. This is the new world and we need to re-shape our education system at higher level to meet the new challenge, the BJP leader said.

Recalling his childhood days, Jaitley said he used to keenly watch the college building while passing through the GT Road in the vicinity and used to think it to be palace of some king.
