30-year-old Nurse, ‘Obsessed’ With Doctor, Gets Arrested For Breaking Into His House
Sophie Colwill, 30, bombarded David Pagliero with up to 1,000 calls in a single day.

One nurse recently came into the spotlight after stalking a dentist. She attached a tracking device to his car and even broke into his home; the nurse has been spared a prison sentence. Sophie Colwill, 30, bombarded David Pagliero with up to 1,000 calls in a single day and managed to break into his home, where she waited for him in his bedroom before escaping through a window. A court heard Colwill worked with Pagliero, 54, at the Smile Dental Centre in Exeter, Devon, which bills itself as The Gentle Dental Centre. When Pagliero’s wife died, he sought “company” in Colwill, but they split up and Colwill became obsessed. She followed the dentist in his car to various locations such as a petrol station when he went to buy petrol. The father-of-two drove to a local shop called Dart’s Farm near his home in Exeter and saw Colwill open his car after leaving it – and he thought she must have a spare key. Mr Pagliero was forced to leave his car in the car park because he believed he was being followed by her. When he returned to his vehicle, Colwill was back there, the court heard.

Details of how Colwill entered the £1.35 million (Rs 12,51,05,850) five-bedroom detached house near Exeter were not given in court last week. Colwill was sentenced on Thursday but Mr Pagliero urged the district judge to be “kind” and not lock her up. Instead, she was given a 20-week prison sentence, suspended from work for 12 months, and a five-year restraining order banning her from contacting Mr Pagliero or entering his home or dental surgery.

Prosecutor Alistair Verheijen said Colwill gained entry to the dentist’s home and a “tug of war” ensued when the defendant tried to take his mobile phone. Colwill then escaped through a window. She also harassed him by telephone, calling him 965 times in a single day and more than 1,000 times the next day. Mr Verheijen said: “The calls didn’t stop.”
