Ola co-founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal found himself in a tricky situation after he labelled his company as the fourth-largest EV manufacturer in the world. Agarwal made the claim at the Ola Sankalp event on August 15. A new series of bikes was launched at the event. Speaking at the event, Aggarwal showcased a presentation where Ola could be seen leading the list of the world’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturers. In the following slide, the company was placed fourth among the EV companies.

“I want to set a path for the future of Ola Electric. We need to look at the future. We are now a listed company. We are now the world’s fourth largest EV company outside of China,” Bhavish Aggarwal said at Ola Sankalp, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

The 38-year-old entrepreneur forgot to mention “China” while calling Ola Electric the largest two-wheeler EV company in the world. Each of the slides, which were shown at the event, however, featured a text– “Excluding China.”

Bhavish Aggarwal’s remarks caused a stir on social media. Screenshots of the presentations at the Ola Sankalp event went viral. And, it led to a meme fest.

“To present Ola Electric as the 4th largest EV company in the world by revenue and 5th largest EV company in the world by market cap, they have *excluded China, which has the most number of EV companies in the world’s top 10 by revenue or market cap,” noted a person on X (formerly Twitter).

Echoing a similar sentiment, a person remarked, “There’s never a day that Indian companies won’t embarrass you. They removed a whole country larger than India from the chart to make OLA the “4th” largest EV company.”

An individual sarcastically branded Micromax as “the 3rd largest mobile phone company in India”. Of course, after “excluding Chinese brands.”

According to a report by Mashable, the top three EV companies in the world are based in China.
