Overworking is perhaps one of the most irritating and dreadful experiences one can endure. Staying late at the office for a day or two is tolerable, but imagine your boss asking you to do it every single day. It’s a scenario no one would willingly accept. Yet, that’s exactly what happened to a Redditor when their boss demanded an exhausting routine.
In a post on the ‘Developers India’ subreddit, a user shared their frustrating ordeal with their overbearing boss. “So I log out after 6:30 generally.. My manager works a lot and even late into the night. He wants me to work with him for a bit long like 8 to 8:30,” they explained. The user further expressed their frustration, saying, “However I don’t want to work overtime with no extra pay.” Despite receiving an average rating this year, which they weren’t too concerned about, the relentless pressure to work long hours was impacting their mental health.

The post quickly went viral, drawing a flood of advice from the online community. “Yes you should work but on your personal skills so that in next few months you get a better workplace,” one user advised bluntly. Another suggested, “Saying no is a skill. It comes by practice.”

A third humorously remarked, “Tell him you got like 6 girlfriends/boyfriends and need to pay attention to them each day of the week.” Yet another comment read, “Typical Indian managers. Hope these Idiots will retire soon. Lie that you have to go to pray or gym or get offer letter from another company and say to his face ” that’s none of your business”.
Sadly, this isn’t the first time companies have tried to disrupt their employees’ work-life balance. Previously, a screenshot of a viral job posting was shared on Reddit with the caption, “Work/life balance? Never heard of her.” The job posting clearly stated, “If your goal in life is to have a work/life balance, then please don’t apply.” The company justified this stance by claiming that the desire for work-life balance is often an excuse used by people who don’t want to work. They added, “We are not a company that wants to work all of the time, but we understand that it is a required part of life, so work is life as well. They are not exclusive.”
Seriously, do some companies really consider life after work to be a joke?
