The woman went into active labour at 8.50 pm on January 15, 2024.

The Sparta police department in the USA received an odd call for assistance when they were informed that a woman was about to give birth in a car that was pulled to the side of a highway. Within minutes, Officer Christopher Botta located the car and reached the car’s occupants, Tyler and Stephanie. The officer acted promptly when he saw the “Baby’s head crowning and proceeded to ensure the umbilical cord was not wrapped around the baby’s neck."

Stephanie soon delivered the baby girl into Officer Botta’s hands. Luckily, the baby girl appeared to be in good health. Following the baby’s birth, the mother and child were moved to the Morristown Medical Center.

This incident took place on January 15 at 8.50 pm. According to a Facebook post by the Sparta police department, Officer Botta contacted Tyler and Stephanie two days later and they told him that the baby girl, named Millie, was doing well.

The police department praised their team for promptly assisting Millie’s birth. The law enforcement agency wrote, “We wanted to congratulate Millie’s parents, Tyler, and Stephanie on the birth of their baby girl and hope that they will come visit us at the station in the future. We thank Officer Botta along with Sgt. Robert Fraser, Officer Erick Finley, and Officer Alyse Brown for their quick actions, compassion, professionalism, and protection from bad weather conditions and highway traffic during this unforgettable experience. Thank you to the Sparta Ambulance Squad and St. Clare’s Paramedics for their assistance." This post gathered over 14,000 likes.

In May 2023 a similar incident took place when Deputy Daniel Jones of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida was contacted by a panicked driver on a highway who informed him that his wife was about to give birth. Officer Jones immediately called County Fire Rescue and rushed to the side of the mother and helped her deliver the baby in her car’s backseat. After the baby’s safe birth, the mother and child were taken to the nearby hospital.

Officer Jones received praise from Sheriff Chad Chronister for his quick thinking. Sheriff Chad Chronister said, “I am extremely proud of Master Deputy Jones’s quick actions and dedication to serving our community in any capacity. This is his third time assisting a citizen with delivering a baby! While delivering in the front seat of a car was not the original birth plan, Master Deputy Jones reassured the mother of six that she was in good hands. I wish mom, dad, and their new baby girl all the joy and happiness. Congratulations!"
