The viral recipe starts with a person deep frying a roti. The cook then takes it out of the oil, plates it, crushes a couple of fried rotis into a mixture, and then puts it in a blending jar. He makes a fine powder of the rotis.

Next, he caramelises sugar in a pan, adds milk, and stirs it to create a smooth paste. Further, he mixes the powdered rotis into this, stirring until everything is well combined. The final step is spreading the mixture onto a butter-paper-lined tray, letting it cool, and cutting it into squares to make what he calls roti milk cakes.

As soon as the video was shared, users had various reactions to it. One person called it “innovative” while another one said, “looks yummy.”

While some praised the recipe, not everyone was impressed by it. Many users pointed out the large amount of sugar and oil used, making it clearly unhealthy.

“Call it sugar cake, not milk cake,” read a comment. Another viewer said, “Can someone give it another name? You’re looting the respect of milk cake.” Another said sarcastically, “Bro invented atte (flour) ka halwa wow.”

Some Instagram users also shared alternate tips like, “First, we eat it with salt and pepper powder after frying in oil or ghee. Second, grind the pieces of bread without frying with a hand or grinder, then mix ghee and sugar in a pan, it will become churma.”

Another user suggested eating the leftover rotis with tea would be better than making so much effort.
