The Bikaner police recovered an SUV stolen from Delhi but the thieves left a few messages for one and all. The car had three handwritten notes with useful details about the theft. About 450 kilometres from the owner’s residence in Delhi’s Palam Colony, this Scorpio was abandoned outside a roadside motel in Napasar.
According to NDTV, the first note left at the back window said: “This car has been stolen from Delhi’s Palam. Sorry,” and with the said vehicle’s registration number of DL 9 CA Z2937. Another note said “I love my India,” and the third said, “Please call the police and inform them. Urgent”.
On October 10, Vinay Kumar, the car’s owner, reported theft. Local authorities were informed about the suspicious vehicle on October 14 by a passerby who observed the notes on the car.
When the police came across the SUV, they were able to trace it back to Kumar through its registration number. Inspector Jasveer Singh of Napasar Police Station said the vehicle, suspected to have been involved in a crime before being dumped, requires further investigation by the Delhi police.
“A team of Delhi police has reached Bikaner along with the owner of the vehicle Vinay Kumar. We are handing over the vehicle to Delhi police,” Singh told NDTV.
Additionally, he said the investigation would include determining whether or not the vehicle was used in a crime. He went on to say that since the FIR for the stolen car was filed in Delhi, the Delhi police would look into it.
According to the Theft & the City 2024 report by Acko Digital Insurance, New Delhi has remained home to 80% of all stolen passenger cars in the country. According to the report, 105 new carjackings occur daily in New Delhi which translates to a car being stolen every 14 minutes.
Mass-segment cars such as the Maruti Wagon R and Swift are targeted more often due to their high demand and high second-hand value.
