Video: Employees 'Devastated' As Pakistan's Iconic Restaurant Shuts Its Doors

Monal Restaurant, a renowned dining spot in Islamabad known for its stunning views, has been ordered to close by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Reportedly, the court issued a legal notice to shut down Monal and several other eateries in the region due to allegations of their construction on illegally acquired land within Margalla Hills National Park. Consequently, Monal has permanently closed, and all staff members have been terminated. A video showing the workers receiving their termination letters has gone viral on social media, evoking a strong emotional response from viewers.

The footage captures several workers in tears, while one even fainted after hearing the shocking news. The Supreme Court has ordered the shutdown of all eateries on the hilltop to protect the park’s biodiversity. Restaurants in the area have been given a three-month deadline to vacate. Sharing the video of workers’ heartbreaking situation, an Instagram user wrote, “Monal Employees After Termination letter.” Since the video was shared on Instagram, it has garnered over 82 lakh views.

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “He fainted because he is thinking about his responsibilities towards his family.”

Another shared, “They can go to labour court for restoration of job or they can file a petition in payment of wages authority for payment of gratuity and other payments.”

“It’s heartbreaking for the employees, but the news that monal is shutting down has been out for enough time now that these employees could have searched and interviews for other jobs. Even if THEY did not, its the employers duty to inform the employees to find other jobs and give references,” a comment read.

Another wrote, “They make billions from these employees now they leave them alone.”

An individual shared, “I feel for you guys. That’s unfortunate. Hope you find a new one soon.”

One more added, “Jispe responsibilities hoti hain aur uski naukri jati hai to sirf wahi jaanta hai pain ko. (Only the person who has responsibilities and loses their job truly understands the pain).”

Confirming the news on Instagram, Monal Restaurant wrote, “It’s time to say Goodbye. Dear Valued Customers, Thank you for your trust and for giving us a chance to serve you to the best of our abilities, for giving us recognition, appreciation and a place in your heart. Since 2006, it was an absolute pleasure for the Monal family to serve and showcase a positive image of Pakistan and its beautiful people. This journey was full of success stories and emotions for the team affiliated with us but now it’s time to say goodbye. Here’s to a difficult farewell.”

Established in 2006, the picturesque Monal Restaurant will close permanently on September 11.
