Video Of Bus Navigating Through Waterlogged Streets In Mumbai Triggers Safety Concern

Mumbai’s troubles are predicted to get worse as a result of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) heavy rain prediction for the next two to three days. The city has been heavily impacted by the ongoing monsoon rains. With heavy rains expected across the city on Monday, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for the city. For July 23, the Met Department has put out an orange alert. Meanwhile, Traffic around the city is being impacted by waterlogging caused by heavy rain. A bus is seen speeding through flooded streets in a video posted on X, while other individuals are seen walking in knee-deep water close to Kurla.

Numerous areas of Mumbai received more than 200 mm of rain in the twenty-four hours that concluded on Monday at 8 a.m. The automated weather station of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation indicates that Trombay recorded the most rain (241 mm).

Between Sunday and Monday morning, the Santacruz observatory of the IMD reported 176 mm of rainfall, whereas the Colaba station reported 71 mm.

It is anticipated that there will be a high tide of over five metres at around 12:50 pm. Navi Mumbai may experience waterlogging in some of its lower-lying neighbourhoods due to its below-sea location.

The Numampa Education Department and the Disaster Management Department have announced that schools in Navi Mumbai would be closed in the afternoon due to high tide. The constant rain has caused a 5% increase in lake levels over the last day, with the water stock in the seven lakes reaching 47.29% on Monday morning.
