However, in Japan, the game seems to hold significant importance as it becomes the deciding factor in important decisions. A 2016 video surfacing on social media features the most intense game of “rock, paper, scissors” ever played between two contestants on a professional stage, as the result would determine the fate of their musical career. No, we are not kidding.

According to Mashable India, “Rock, paper, scissors” called Janken in Japan was part of an event organised by pop group AKB48 to determine who would appear on their next record. The competing contestants are Yumoto Ami and Tanabe Miku were competing against one another, reports add.

Sharing the video, a user wrote, “Who knew Japan took rock, paper, scissors so seriously,” in the caption. The old video shared on X on August 29 has collected over 20 million views.

While such a contest may appear unusual, the video overwhelms you emotionally. People refer to the contestant’s victory as the “best video on the internet” because of the surge of emotion it provokes. As Tanabe wins ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’, pure euphoria engulfs the stadium. She wells up and kneels, in disbelief of what has happened. As the crowd roars with further acclaim, her rival hugs her. Tanabe, who is exhausted, goes on to add that she will drink to relieve her exhaustion.
