India's Schedule for England Tour in 2025 Announced, Series to Kickstart Next WTC Cycle

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian men’s cricket team will travel to England next year for a five-match Test series, which is scheduled to start on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. The second Test will be played from July 2 to 6 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, and the three red-ball matches will take place at Lord’s (July 10–14), Manchester (July 23–27), and The Oval (July 31–August 4).

The BCCI took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (August 22) to confirm the venues and dates of the fixtures.

India hasn’t won a Test series in England since getting the better of the Michael Vaughan-led side in 2007. During that tour, Rahul Dravid-led India defeated England by seven wickets in the second Test played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

In the last Test tour for England in 2021–22, India won the second and fourth Test played at the Lord’s and the Oval but went down in Leeds and Birmingham to miss out on the chance of winning Test series on English soil.

The Test tour of England next year will also start the 2025–27 season of the World Test Championship for India.

India has played England in all three editions of the WTC played so far. In the 2019–21 season, the Virat Kohli-led side defeated England by a margin of 3-1 at home, and in the 2021–23 cycle, the series ended at 2-2 in England. In the 2023–25 cycle, India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, defeated England in four out of five Tests played at home in 2024 to win the series with a scoreline of 4-1.

India hasn’t won a Test match in Leeds since 2002, and it will be a big challenge for the Rohit Sharma-led side to get the better of England in the series opener at Headingley. The historic venue in Yorkshire has been a happy hunting ground for the hosts in the last few years. The Poms have managed to win all of the last five Tests played at Headingley.

In the last Test played between India and England at Headingley in August 2021, the Joe Root-led side defeated India by an innings and 76 runs.
