A 27-year-old cloth retailer reportedly killed his 18-year-old newly-wed wife using a sickle following a fight at his relative’s house in Karnataka’s Kolar. He then tried to kill himself. He was rushed to a hospital in Bengaluru where he succumbed to his injuries the next day (August 8).
Naveen and Likhita’s love-cum-arranged marriage took place in Chambarasabahalli, Kolar Gold Fields, with both families in attendance, according to media reports.
According to police, after the ceremony, Naveen took Likhita and her family to his uncle’s house for refreshments. Shortly after, Naveen and Likhita entered a room and closed the door.
Relatives soon heard shouting and, upon looking through a window, saw Naveen attacking Likhita with a sickle, police said.
They forced the door open to find Likhita in a pool of blood and Naveen injured. They initially took them to RL Jalappa Hospital, but due to delays, Naveen was later transferred to Bengaluru for further treatment, where he died on August 8.
The Andersonpet Police has filed a case of murder and suicide against Naveen.
