The refreshment allowance of NCC cadets has been increased from Rs 2 to Rs 15 for a period by Finance Minister K M Mani. The allowance has been increased after a gap of 15 years.
The Finance Ministry passed the order after a demand from the NCC cadets that the allowance was the lowest in Kerala as all other states had increased the refreshment allowance.
In a week, there will be three periods for the NCC cadets. In Kerala, there is a total of 50,450 junior cadets and 26,560 senior cadets and in the financial year 2012-13, Rs 6 crore has been earmarked for the NCC. Out of this, Rs 2.15 crore will go for refreshment allowance.
The School Teachers Front had also given a memorandum to the Finance Minister to increase the allowance.
