Director Sundar C Reveals The Reason He Doesn't Make Films Like Anbe Sivam Anymore
The film Anbe Sivam was released in 2003 and lacked the support, success, and fanfare.

Director Sundar C, known for his franchise Aramanai, has revealed why he hasn’t ventured into films like Anbe Sivam since its release in 2003.

Sundar C has given classic commercial films blending love, action, and comedy and fans predicted that his films would have no dearth of comedy and action.

One of his films that is completely different from the films directed by Sundar C is the film Anbe Sivam, with a story, screenplay, and dialogues by Kamal Haasan. Starring Madhavan, Kiran, Uma Riaz, Santana Bharti, Nasser, and Yugi Sethu, among others, the film, inspired by the concept of Anbe Gaddam (Love is God), failed to make a mark at the box office and did not hit the theatres as expected and was a commercial failure, despite its deep meaning.

The film ‘Anbe Sivam’ lacked the support, success and fanfare.

Years after its release, Anbe Sivam has garnered a cult following from movie lovers and social media users who are appreciating and celebrating this film.

However, Sundar C’s journey post Anbe Sivam has not seen him return to such thought-provoking cinema. Fans have often wondered why he hasn’t made films with such a good concept after that.

At a recent event, a fan asked him, “After Anbe Sivam, why didn’t you make films with that concept?” and Sundar’s answer left everyone wondering.

Addressing this question, Sundar C shared, “Because of the film Anbe Sivam, the losses are more than the gains for me. The reality is that I stayed at home for almost a year after happily directing that film.”

He expressed disappointment over the lack of support for Anbe Sivam during its release, contrasting it with the current appreciation for the film.

Sundar C added, “If fans had supported such movies when they were released, I would have been interested in making more films like ‘Anbe Sivam.'” He emphasized that the film hurt him deeply.

It is noteworthy that actor Vijay Antony recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) in response to the criticism given by Blue Shirt Maran to the movie Romeo, saying, “Don’t fail to celebrate good movies by saying, ‘Don’t make Romeo an Anbe Sivam.'”

Director Sundar C has given many commercial hit films like Ulamtha Allitha, Ulam Kollai Poguthe, Une Thirud, Arunachalam, Capital, Palace and many more.
