India has gifted 35 ambulances and 66 school buses to various organisations across Nepal in a sign of deepening partnership with the neighbouring nation.
At the handover ceremony, held at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava presented the keys to these essential vehicles in presence of Finance Minister of Nepal Barsha Man Pun. Srivastava said these gifts “symbolise India’s steadfast support for Nepal’s development journey, particularly in enhancing healthcare and education accessibility”.
The Nepalese Finance Minister expressed gratitude for India’s ongoing development projects, “recognising their pivotal role in fostering bilateral relations and enhancing people-to-people connectivity”, said a press statement from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
Of the total 101 vehicles gifted, two ambulances were handed over on location in the earthquake-affected Jajarkot and West Rukum districts by the representative of the Embassy of India in the presence of district officials and local residents.
The ceremony underscored India’s tradition of extending assistance to Nepal, reflecting the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. India regularly provides substantial financial and technical assistance to Nepal for implementation of large development and infrastructure and connectivity projects in key areas of education, health, irrigation and rural infrastructure. A series of cross-border connectivity projects such as rail links, roads, Integrated Check Posts are also under implementation with Indian grant assistance.
India has consistently extended a helping hand to its Himalayan neighbour. Since 1994, India has gifted a total of 1,009 ambulances and 300 school buses across Nepal, including those gifted today. The Indian Ambassador said that these donations are long-standing initiatives of the India under the Nepal-India Development Partnership to bolster the efforts of the Nepalese government to strengthen its infrastructure in health and education sectors.
Historically, India has played a pivotal role in Nepal’s socio-economic progress, extending assistance across various sectors ranging from infrastructure development to capacity building. The close ties between the two countries are deeply rooted in shared history, culture, and geographical proximity, forming the cornerstone of their bilateral relations.
